And that’s why you always have your own back

Fifteen months after my Acro Yoga partner dropped me on my head, and seven months into the 24/7 immobility and tear-triggering pain that the incident eventually precipitated, I might finally be figuring out the lesson.

Yes, she was grossly irresponsible. And yes, I had been extremely careful when it had been her turn.

But I shouldn’t have remained silent.

I could have called out to her to stand responsibly. To lean forward and support my weight, as I had done for her.

My politeness cost me big time.

It could have been worse, of course. But my steadily worsening neck, scapula and shoulder girdle injury, and my costly physio attempt to undo the damage, was completely unnecessary. I should have had my own back.

I hope I’ve learned.
