WTF Wednesday 16:
 Celebrating Bob LeDrew

My friend Bob is compassionate, courageous and colossally community-building.

He’s smart and articulate. He oozes culture. And his quick wit’s topped only by his mischievous grin.

Bob LeDrew is the most funky and fashionable guy I know. He might even be a hipster, but I’m not cool enough to tell. He communicates generously and from the heart. And he rewards those around him with the urge and means to serve.

He’s a writer, a musician, a podcaster, a cyclist, a folk festival director, a survivor and a Stephen King superfan. He’s MC, speaker, founder or organizer of umpteen très cool happenings. He knows and uses Arrested Development quotes to hysterical perfection. And his smirk-inducing T-shirt collection is epic.

He’s sensitive (like a woman). And he’s absolutely awesome at choosing a wife.

In The Beginning

I first crossed paths with Bob LeDrew at Podcasters Across Borders 2008 (PAB08). He carved a spot in my heart with a sincere and stirring email to Mark in August of that year and then sealed the deal with a lengthy sitting-on-the-floor chat — Mark, Bob, Bob’s wife Cathy and me — long after all our other guests had left my head shaving party, December 27, 2009.

Mark and I haven’t been able to get enough of him since. But we always enjoy the time we get.

Epic Then

Anything that includes Bob LeDrew is lots of fun:

  • Several weekend long PABs.
  • Censored Out Loud.
  • Yummy waffles at Pressed.
  • A fabulous evening of Colin Hay.
  • Some BobCat magic.
  • Some laughs in Margaritaville.
  • An evening of vegan AD.
  • And even a bit of yoga.

Epic Now

These days Bob LeDrew and I interact on Facebook. Not particularly often. But quality vs quantity, and all that. Any time Bob’s timely communication isn’t brilliantly hilarious, its candor and consideration melt my heart.

University of Bob

Bob Ledrew’s community engagement and charity support are astounding. From cycling and writing to comedy and captivation, Bob applies his wide ranging skills to promote full bellies, thriving diversity and wellness for those around him. He’s saint, you know. He’s a living saint and he gets absolutely nothing out of it.

But seriously.

Bob LeDrew courageously sees and responds to other peoples’ troubles.

Bob LeDrew courageously shares and helps us learn from his own.

I am so grateful for both.

Fantasy Fabulosity

If I could magically conjure a next adventure with Bob, I would pick an unforgettable evening of storytelling and music with Colin Hay, BobCat Style. Bob, Cathy, Mark, Lucy, Bayla, myself and an intimate collection of adoring Colin Hay fans.

We’d steep ourselves in scrumptious potluck delicacies, laughter and a hearty helping of Hay humour, crooning, wisdom, and humility. Maybe even a little bit of Lapsang Souchong.

And we’d enjoy a splendid spring evening walk there and back.
